Finding the Reading Rainbow

MeI don't know what it is but lately I've been wanting to read. Books! Yeah! Shocker! LOL And I'm choosing the worst time to "want" to read too because now that I have a baby, I hardly have time do any reading at all. If I do, it is at bed time. When Sofia is out for the night. So that's what I've been doing lately. Reading in bed with her right before we turn out the lights. Soon I'll be having to read her bed time stories! LOL While I was in Waco, I did a stop at "Book a Million". OMG! Book heaven! I swear I could spend hours there... (if I could!) I bought a few books there. For me AND Sofia. Yeah, I'm starting a collection for her already. Those interactive books, the kind you push and they squeak, the kind she can put in her mouth, the ones with textures for her to feel, the ones she can take to the bathtub, etc. Lots! Then just the other day, we went to a thrift store in town... OMG! They had a book section too. And the best thing about it was they had OLD books. Joe and I found a couple that we read when we were kids. So of course, we bought them! And they were only like, 75 cents! WTH? Do these people not know how valuable these books are??? Gah! So we left with a bag full of books... THEN........ We went to Super HEB the other day. I really need to stay away from the book section as of now but of course, I headed that way. I found 3 books. On CLEARANCE! 99 cents each. Reduced from 24.95. Dude, a STEAL! Ahhhh! I was so excited! I can't wait to start reading all my books. It will be difficult but I will read them! I will! You'll see!

Curious to know which books I've purchased (just to name a few) in the last week or so? Check it!

The Art of Motherhood: A book brimming with tried and tested tips that encourage mothers to use a holistic approach when caring for their children--and themselves.

Mommy Yoga: The 50 stretches of Motherhood - an irresistibly cute and hilarious look at the amazing positions mothers find themselves in while feeding, cleaning, and generally caring for their kids. With creative and very apt spoofs on yoga vernacular, MOMMY YOGA deftly and humorously blends yoga with mommy life. Complemented by colorful and hip illustrations by graphic artist Susan McKenna, this collection of 50 poses is the perfect gift book for every mom and her three best friends from playgroup

Dear Zoe: I started reading this one already...

Uncle John's Presents Mom's Bathtub Reader: This one is GOOD! I started reading it too... very interesting stuff in it!

The Busy Mom's Book of Preschool Activities: I know this one will come in handy in due time! And can't beat 99 cents! LOL HAD to take it!

The Zygote Chronicles: Reminds me of what we went through with IVF and the whole pregnancy to get Sofia here!

How to Photograph Children: I still haven't gotten around to this one but I plan to soon! I need me some tips to photograph even better pics of our baby Sofia. =)

Photography for Scrapbookers
: Great tips for photography and it'll come in handy now that I want to scrapbook. Yayyy!

I could share more but ummm... I don't want to bore you to death (if I haven't already)! Next time I'll share Sofia's book list.

And I couldn't end this entry without sharing this:

Gosh, I miss being a kid! I used to tune in to the Reading Rainbow everyday after school! Did you do the same? *le sigh* Memories...
Before you leave though, tell me what book/s you're reading or what was the last book you read? Recommend it?

ps. Like my little "Mamirosa" sig on the bottom? Yeap! It's my writing! Wrote it on a paper and scanned it! Me's so smart! LOL

  2. I've been saying I'm gonna buy a couple new books as well...but more along the lines of those trashy type of novels (lol). I need to indulge in some "made up" fiction type drama since I don't indulge in any in real life, hahahaha! :-)

  3. I loved me some reading rainbow. You know it is never to early to start reading to Sofia. I started reading to Sophia in the womb and now we take weekly library trips. Now I catch her reading to her dolls. I am an avid reader and really want Sophia to love books as much as I do. Right now I am reading Once Upon a 15nera by Julia Alvarez. Well not really reading, but listening. I dont have alot of time for reading either but I do find myself in the car alot. I borrow the cds from the library and put them on my ipod. Then I can listen in the car or at night when the light are out! I am also reading (actually reading), "The Sweet Potato Queens' Guide to Raising Children for Fun & Profit". A funny look at motherhood.

  5. I loved reading rainbow!

I haven't sat down to read a book in a good long time. I think the last book I read was that exposure book. I need new reads for sure.

  7. I'm a reader! :-)

Right now I am reading a book about a lady whos husband leaves her and their 2 little kids for a younger woman. And at first the book made me mad and sad but now it's pretty fun w/ her dating adventures and now the husband is jealous and wants to move back home! ha!

    ~*~ Happy Reading ~*~

  8. The Zygote Chronicles is soooo good. I read that this year. I'm reading her other novel now (Otherwise Engaged) which is taking me forever and not b/c it's not good - simply because I'm lazy.

For some reason, the older I get - the less I read which is scary. I LOVE books. I just gotta find the right rhythm and time to get back into it.

  10. What a blast from the past with Reading Rainbow!!! I loved that show when I was a kid!!! :) I was never really into reading books...then, when I was taking a class at City College I had to write a report on any book....so I randomly chose a book by Victor Villasenor. Let me tell you, I fell in love with it and I've boughten all of his books since then. I would recommend Burro Genius for sure!! Enjoy your reading!!!

  11. The last book I read was Once Upon a Quinceañera by Julia Alvarez. I wouldn't have bought the book if not for Alvarez. I love both her prose (fiction and non) as well as her poetry. It made me think about the whole practice of quinces and being a teenage woman much differently. I need to get around to writing a review and highlighting some of my favorites.

I'm currently reading The Flowers by Dagoberto Gilb. The key character, Sonny, is a young Chicano living in LA. I haven't gotten too far in the book, but it's good. It makes the bus rides go quicker.

Finally, I'm still trying to get through Cien Años de Soledad by Gabriel García Márquez. It's tough to read it in the original Spanish since I don't know a lot of the words.

Thanks for the video! Everytime I see a butterfly or a rainbow, I think of that song. It was definitely one of my favorite shows as a kid.
