TV? What TV?
I don't know if I mentioned to you guys but we cut off our cable service about a month ago now. It was a hard decision to make. We'd been talking about doing that for months. Well... we even considered it when we were in Texas still but we just couldn't bring ourselves to do it. But man, money is tight right now and we just had to cut some corners. One day I discovered Hulu.com and that's when I was like, "Dude... what do we need cable for? Let's cut it!" I showed hubby the website and he too agreed that we should just do it. Besides, we could watch some of our favorite shows online and Sofia too. She likes a lot of the shows on the Disney Playhouse channel and their website allows you to watch their episodes online. Love THAT! So it's been now about a month and I can honestly tell you we don't miss it. Really. I'm not bluffin'. We don't. Well... ok. SOME shows we do miss. LIke Joe misses the SPIKE channel because he loved watching the UFC fights and The Ultimate Fighter series. But we can watch it on iTunes if we want to. And can I just say that I LOVE torrents? LOL Yeah... and NetFlix! I signed up for a trial a few months ago and I liked it. And I love that they have that "Watch Instantly" feature so Sofia can watch some of her favorite toons on there as well. So when we decided to cut off the cable, I asked him if we could keep our Netflix account and upgrade it because it really came in handy for me. It's still WAY cheaper than what our cable costs. We're saving ourselves about 80.00 a month. No joke. So yeah... we don't miss it much. I specially don't miss the news. If we want to know what's going on around the world or in our town, we just go to the news website. Yesterday Joe was on the pc and I was like, "Watcha reading?" he said, "The news. Listen to this..." So he read me the story about this woman's body they found in Albuquerque up in the mountains and had arrested some family members due to suspicion of involvement. When he was done I was like, "That is so sad! And depressing. I don't want to hear anymore! I don't miss the NEWS!" They never have anything good to say for the most part anyway. So yeah... that's how we've survived without Cable. Could you do it? =)

no, maybe...no maybe not. idk. lol
ReplyDeleteWe are cutting corners too, but cable we had to keep. We just have basic extended. The hubby needs to watch his Dodger games and since he doesn't spend on much else, we had to keep it. Instead we sacrifice on other things. It's hard though.
ReplyDeleteKaren: haha! Yes you could, sister! It just takes some getting used to.
ReplyDeleteTeresa: Basic's not too bad. I forgot what package we had... plus we had 2 DVR's boxes in the house so that adds up too. PLUS cable. They just know how to get you. LOL We just kept the internet since we're on it more than we watch t.v. It's different for everyone I guess. But we don't regret making that decision for sure. We're behind on a lot of things on t.v. but we always catch up sooner or later. haha
ReplyDeleteOh, Teresa, sorry you were seeing "No Title" next to entries. I hadn't gotten to you yet. I left off on the letter K of registered users. But I jumped some and fixed ya! Now should be able to see everything, Okie Dokie? Sowwie!
ReplyDeleteI think I might be able to... We've needed to cut corners too, but I guess we just can't decide on what we should cut out?! LoL Trust me, I've disconnected from the net for a while (as you know) and I do miss kit with my girls, but I've managed to survive!! Saving $80 a month is great!! Yeah, we have netflix too... I'd heard of Hulu a while back... never really go on there.
ReplyDeleteYou get used to it. I remember when our cable would be out for days... even weeks, I'd be miserable the first few days but then I'd be fine. So yeah.. you'd be fine without internet too, chica. I just don't wan't to cut my internet life. YET. haha
ReplyDeleteIf you decide to go with cutting the cable off, let me know and I'll hook u up with some good links. I found a site online that has tv shows! So I can stay up to date on stuff but honestly, I don't do that much. I'm not one to watch t.v. shows passionately. Maybe only one. WHALE WARS! haha But that's pretty much it. Pretty simple. =)
Hulu is very cool! I downloaded it for my mac and I love that I can control it with my apple remote from the bed. hahaha
I could SURVIVE w/o cable if I had to, lol. There are a couple of shows on Lifetime that I watch -- Drop Dead Diva and Army Wives -- but they're only on a portion of the year. I also watch a show on Showtime -- The Tudors -- but we only order the channel for the 10 weeks that it's on, then we cancel it. We also just watched True Blood on HBO, but we canceled it when the season ended... so really, the only other shows I watch are on ABC, which is basic..... so yeah, I guess I COULD get around without it. We pay a lot for our cell phones which is annoying. We don't talk much on them, we mostly text so we have unlimited texting, and we have the lowest minutes plan (I think it's like 450 minutes a month) -- but we only use maybe 120 a month, so that's annoying -- we have over 1000 rollover minutes! Wish we could sell those back lol. We don't use our house phone much either. Internet I couldn't survive without. Impossible.
ReplyDeleteGabby: You can watch all those shows on the COMPUTER! LOL I found a site online that has them for download. Shhhh! haha I don't watch those shows but I remember seeing them on the list.
ReplyDeleteYES. OMG the cell phone is another bill that makes us cringe each month. Ridiculous what they get away with. Crazy! We cut off our house phone too. We haven't had a home phone for years. I just make sure to have my cell phone charged all the time and close by in case of emergencies you know?
And I agree, internet, I could DEFINITELY, without ANY QUESTIONS asked, not survive WITHOUT. LOL
Ever. I'd cry day and night. hahahaha
I think I would miss cable. Especially HBO. I am a series freak on that channel! :) Plus I tend to watch TV and have the computer on my lap at the same time! haha. Bravo to you and your husband that you are able to make that change without any withdrawals!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI could do it but for sure not my girls. I only watch if twice a week really and if I miss my shows I watch it online on ABC. I'm so busy running around I don't have time! lol
