Dumb Cashier Lady!

I went to Wallymart today to buy some last minute groceries, right? I thought, "It's going to be a breeze. In & Out." Piece of cake! Well... I shouldn't have expected that to happen. Really. I mean, I should have seen the signs coming. Local High School Parade in the happening {streets are invaded by people.... LOTS OF CARS}, I couldn't find a parking space, Sofia started throwing a fit because she hates sitting in the shopping carts, and I was pinching pennies! I get my shopping done as quickly as possible, trying to make the whole process fun for Sofia. I get to the produce section. Need tomatoes!

Me: Want to help, Sofia?
Sofia: SI!
Me: Ok! Count the tomatoes with me.... 1..2...3... {etc} Ok... now can you put them in the bag for me?

While she puts them in the bag I run for another product Yeah... shopping with toddlers is another job in itself, let me tell ya!
So I manage to survive that but I wanted to get out of there ASAP! I even {shame on me!} cut in front of this old lady. I was looking for the shortest lane to get to. I spotted one but I saw this old lady spot it too at the same time, we were both going about the same speed. Same distance. But then I zoom up and literally CUT her off! LOL How rude! Sorry lady. I want out of here ASAP. And this is where I think KARMA bit me in the butt. The girl I got was so NOT friendly & had this MAD look on her face.
The girl rings my items. I'm on a TIGHT budget. I'm watching everything she rings up. She's done. DAMN! I went over! That means I have to put some money on my card and pay the rest in cash. No biggie!

Me: "Can you put [x] amount on my card and I'll pay the rest with cash?"
Her: Sure.
[takes the card from me]
Sofia: Mom! Fishies! [she wants goldfish crackers in one of the bags I put in the cart]
Me: Hold on baby, I have to pay for them first
Sofia: [doesn't care] FISHIES! MOM! FISHIES!
Me: HOLD ON, baby.... just wait a minute, ok?
While this is happening, I hear her swipe, and swipe my card over again. This caught my attention so I tuned out Sofia for a minute and noticed the card wasn't going through or something? She swipes a few more times.
Her: [looks at me like an idiot] This card doesn't work...
[insert confused look on my face here]
Her: Do you mind if I give you a new one?
Me: [confused but don't really care, Sofia whining for FISHIES! That's all I'm making sense of] umm... yeah? I guess? [very confused.]
She hands me a card and I see [x] amount ring up on the register and my total is WAY over what it was originally.
Me: Wait. What's this?
Her: A gift card.
Me: I didn't ask for a gift card and you just charged me one.
Her: You handed me a gift card. That's the amount on your card.
Me: Wait. WHAT?
Her: [looking ANNOYED]
Me: You know I just handed you a CREDIT CARD right? It's not a gift card.
Her: Oh, it is?
Me: Yes. I asked you to put [x] dollars on my CREDIT CARD and then I'll pay the rest in cash.
Her: [really ANNOYED NOW. With an impatient look on her face. Takes my card again and swipes it. OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Because apparently, it wasn't going through.]

At this point, I can't take Sofia's whining for Fishies anymore and I just open the darn fishies bag and give her some. This quieted her down so I could focus on crazy cashier lady.
[swipe. swipe. swipe. swipe. swipe. swipe] I'm not exaggerating here either. She must have swiped my card at least 10 times. AT LEAST. I'm thinking, "OMG. I've done this before. I KNOW they can do this. And there is NOTHING wrong with my card because I just called it less than 30 minutes ago to check the balance! She's just too lazy to call someone for help!." So I ask her, "Would it make thing easier for you if I just leave an item and pay you what I can in cash and forget about charging my card?" She says, "No, it's the card..." OMG. Are you listening to me? By now the line is backed up and the old lady I cut in front of asks me "Do you need some money honey? I can give you some if you don't have enough." OMG! Are you serious??? OMG...! No she didn't! LOL The lady I cut in front of is offering to give me money. I didn't know whether to take it as an act of kindness or as an insult! I said "Oh no... no... thank you but there's nothing wrong with my card. I have money. Thank you." To which she replies, "Oh ok... cause I don't mind giving you money if you need it honey..." OMG. LOL! And you would NOT believe, the girl was still trying to get my card to go through. SWIPE. SWIPE. SWIPE. Yikes. Now that I think about it, I hope that I don't get charged for her stupidity! LOL So FINALLY she says, "I'm going to have to call someone to help... the card's not going through." Ummm... yeah! That's something you should have done 5 minutes ago! I was so annoyed with her at this point. I just said, "Look, I'll leave an item and you can void it. Then I'll have enough to pay you with cash." OMG... And she had the worst attitude too. {sigh}

I was so embarrassed. So angry. I felt like crying. Damn it! I hate being BROKE! Shopping by myself WITH SOFIA is not easy. So that just set me over the edge. When I finally got done loading the groceries in the bag and walking the cart to the store and putting Sofia in her car seat, I get into the truck and hold the steering wheel, inhaling and exhaling DEEP. That was NOT fun.... at all...

  1. OH No! that must of been so frustrating, specially with a whining kid! Some people are just useless... I would of asked for a manager immediately. or next time, pay cash first, and when she says you are short, tell her to put the balance on your card.

  2. Oh honey I feel you. We are having big time stuggles with money right now. I hate stupid cashiers like that. I have had that happen to me a whole bunch of times. I swear they tune people out when u are trying to give them specific instructions.

  3. Thanks girl... yeah, I really got the vibe like she didn't know what she was doing, and she didn't want to call the manager. Probably a new employee or something. IDK. I know since they renovated our Walmart store {which by the way looks very NICE!} they've hired a ton of new employees... but yeah... eesh! I tell ya!

  4. Thanks girl... yeah... hard times right now. I can't even imagine how you do it with twins. I'm keeping my eye out for this chick. I'll never go to her when she's working the registers. LOL
