Keeping her busy...

Gosh, it seems like now that my little girl is getting older, the more energy she has! I miss the days when she was little and could entertain herself for HOURS (okay! maybe I'm exaggerating a little when I say HOURS... but you know what I mean!) with one toy. Now she picks up one thing, looks at it for 5 seconds, finds it boring, throws it on the floor and goes to find something else and does the same thing. You should see my house! My goodness! I can't keep up. I just can't. Some days I just don't even bother. But then we find we almost fall flat on our butts or faces because we trip over her toys. *sigh* I can't win! [insert sob here] haha! Ok, no, I'm not really crying but... some days I do feel like crying. It can be a little bit overwhelming.

So I thought the other day... I need to go back to creating a calendar/schedule with daily activities planned for her. She would have so much fun and it would keep me sane. Honestly what made me stop was the fact that I couldn't find the books with ideas for play & learn activities for her. Then something told me yesterday - "Look in the junk closettttt..." So I did and TADA! They were all in there! hahaha! They'd been lost in there for MONTHS. I quickly sat down and started a little schedule with activities for her. We started yesterday. Yesterday we went on a "Nature Walk" around the neighborhood. Thank GOD it was cloudy! Because it was hot as heck but not having the sun BURNING down on us helped a lot. Kids need to get fresh air so I was determined to get her out for a walk. I wrapped a piece of tape inside out around her wrist and I helped her stick a bunch of nature stuff on it. To create her own "nature bracelet". We stuck flowers, leaves, little rocks on it. It was cute! We ran into these wildflowers on the sidewalk. We hung out there looking at butterflies fly over them. Then a BIG OL' bumblebee came and hovered over them too. Sofia had never seen one in real life so she was really excited. We took along a zip lock bag to collect items we'd later put in our "nature pie". When we got home, we took out one of those foil pie tins and added water to it. Then we added all the stuff we collected and stuck it into the freezer with a piece of string we'd use to hang over a tree branch later to watch it melt. We did that today. She loved it.

Didn't cost us a dime to do all these fun things and she had a blast. Here's some pictures I took while we did all these things. =)

Here she is watching a butterfly flying around her. She kept trying to catch it:

Here's the bumblebee I was talking about. You can't really see it very clearly. I took these pics with my BB (the camera on it sucks!) but the bee is in the BIGGEST flower you see here:

Here we are at home making our "nature pie". =)

Here it is FROZEN (the next day!) & READY to be hung outside on the tree branch:

We watched it melt while sat outside and played. =)

Oh! How'd this picture get in here?! hahaha! This was her being terribly cute at home playing dress up with Momma's blouse. I had to tie in the back because she was getting swallowed by it. She was wearing the heels that her Tia Cynthia sent her last year for her B-day. LOL She loves them now! I told her "pose like this!" and she did and she looks so stinkin' cute! LOL Please disregard the crayon markings on the wall. Apparently, we might have a TRUE ARTTTEEEESSST in this house. LOL!

Being a mommy is draining. For sure. I get irritated with the mess she makes. But at the end of the day, I wouldn't have it any different. I love her with all my heart and I always remind myself that when we couldn't conceive, oh how I wished I had a baby that'd make the mess she's making. Just to be blessed to have a child of our own! So I need to chill *which I do, believe me! My house is full of toys on the ground! HAHA* I just have to learn how to balance everything I want to do in one day so I can get other things done (like CLEANING) around the house. I'm still working on that. ;)

  1. I know how you feel sometimes! It can definitely be overwhelming when they get bored with everything. I've got two little girls who get bored with everything. But it's good because I always find things that we can do together that keep them occupied and not bored. :) I usually bake with them, I make home made marshmallow or peanut butter play dough, finger painting, colouring with chalk, they love chess - I know, four and two and already playing chess. I can't believe they have the patience for it already - my brother loves playing it with them "Uncle Dude" they call him. :) I liked your "nature pie" idea, if you don't mind I might steal it this weekend and try it with my girls. :) Your daughter is such a sweetie, I love watching little girls play dress up and you have to tie the clothes because they're swimming in them. Just too sweet for words! :D It will definitely take some time to get the "balancing" act right...took me forever and some days I still feel so wowed by how fast they destroy the house behind me as I clean. Ha ha.

  2. I've never heard of the "nature pie" thing. That seems like a really neat idea and I'm sure my daughter and son would love it! I definitely agree with you - being a mother is VERY draining. However, as mothers we can realize this and still carry on. We realize that it's not just us and little ones depend on us to acquire the energy from the depths of places we never knew existed, and we carry on. I'm a young mother, a student, and a full time employee and I have moments where I cry but I can say that I smile more than I cry. It took me a while to embrace how things were. Nevertheless, I did and I'm very, very happy and satisfied.I also make sure I spend time with my children whenever I can. Although sometimes I just want to relax on my off days, I still acquire that strength that God has stored in this place for me, and we embark upon some family activities. Hearing them laugh and seeing them smile gives me the endurance I need to deal. I'm sure your daughter will love those activities. Great plan, IMO! (They work!)
