So glad that's over.

I'm so sorry on the lack of posts lately. I've been a bad blogger, I know, but I have lots of pictures to share! [smile] Last week we got hit with snow. I was so excited at first. I thought, "Snow! Cool! Finally! The first snow of the year!" Well... I should have bit my tongue because the after math of the snowfall was craziness. It turned out to be about 5 inches or more? A lot of snow for our town. The day after it hit, Sofia and I woke up to find out that our heater wasn't working. I thought it was odd. I yelled at hubby from hallway, "Joe! The heater's not working!" He was still in bed... trying to go back to sleep because Sofia and I wake up early every morning. I thought, "Oh well... he'll fix it when he gets up..." and I continue my regular routine. One of the first things I do is warm up water in a pot over stove to make some warm water with lemon. So I go to turn on the gas and what do you know? NO GAS. Crap. To make a long story short here, we were out of gas for 2 whole days. Yes, that's right. TWO WHOLE DAYS. We had no heat, and no hot water. We couldn't bathe. I couldn't wash dishes. By the 3rd day I almost had a pile of dishes that reached the ceiling. LOL! I was behind on laundry.... we were stinky.... it was CRAZY. Here are some pics I took outside of the snow.

Here is Hubby trying to get the snow off the car with a broom and dust pan! We had no food in fridge and had to go to the store to buy groceries. No choice. Had to. Yeah, totally not prepared for snow like this! HAHA! And it wasn't even like A TON!

Sofia out to look at the snow... SHE loved it!

Icicles melting on the side of the house.

Here is a view of the mountains from our town. Brrr.... cold.

It was a very humbling experience to say the least. It reminded me of how hard some people have it around the world when it comes to water. It gave me flashbacks of the time I've spent in Mexico. By the 2'd day of no water, we couldn't take it anymore and we were warming up water in the microwave and the crock pot to pour into tub to take baths. LOL Hey, at least we still had electricity! We went to the mall to buy an electric blanket. BTW, those electric blankets are INSANELY expensive, aren't they!? Sheesh. But gosh, they are so nice and warm! I always leave it at 5 or 6 level of heat because anything above that feels too hot and I'm afraid the blanket's going to light up on fire. We also went on a hunt for a space heater but wouldn't you know it. They were sold out EVERYWHERE. EVERYWHERE. *sigh* Fortunately, I have a really good friend who lent us 2 space heaters. They helped so much... and then on Saturday morning I was awakened by the gas company guy. He was going around the town lighting up the gas appliances for every home. Cause you know, they don't want you to blow up in your own house. n the evening we realized that one of our water pipes outside BUSTED. *sigh* So we had to turn off the water again. We were sooooo stressed out the past few days... that was kind of like the cherry on top of everything. LOL Like, "Really? Why God? WHY...????? What else is next?" Fortunately we have family here and one of our family members knew someone who was willing to come and look at it to see what they could do to help out. He found a temporary fix so we still have to call someone to fix it. Oh! That reminds me, as soon as I finish this, I'm calling someone to come and fix it!

That's was our life last week. This week's been better... things have gotten back to normal. Thank goodness. I'm so glad it's Friday! I love it when my husband has the weekends off to spend all day with us. Maybe we'll do something fun for Valentine's Day this weekend. Maybe we'll go out to eat. BTW, did I mention we ate out a LOT when we were without gas? *sigh* Anyway, any plans yourself?

  1. How awful to have no heat for days! I am glad things worked out though. Sometimes we forget how important things are until we don't have them. LOL

Hubby, baby and I are having a quiet evening at home with me fixing my favorite dish Oyster Brie Soup. We decided after a couple years of waiting up to an hour and longer for our table (even with reservations) that we rather stay home and enjoy our valentine holidays.

I hope you have a wonderful Valentine Day!!

  2. Thanks girl! Yeah, I also forgot to mention that we weren't the only ones without gas. It was a mass gas outage. There were about 5,000 homes without gas. It was CRAZY! Hope we don't have to go through that again.

You know, we WANT to go do something for Vday... but we might just end up doing a movie and come back home and eat.

Hope yours is wonderful as well, Connie!
